Classes
Pre-school
3-yr. old class meets Tue./Thur. from 8:30 – 11:20 am
4-yr. old class meets M/W/F from 8:30 – 11:20 am
Our pre-school classes focus on letter sounds, number and color words, shapes, motor skills, calendar events (days of the week, seasons, etc.) and socialization skills.
Kindergarten
Meets M-F from 8:30 – 11:30 am
Kindergarten students review pre-school material and in a strongly phonics based program learn the short and long vowels, consonants and phonics rules so that most students are reading by the end of the kindergarten program. We also emphasize math, science, social studies, art and music.
Elementary
Our elementary program has a strong core content comprised of Reading, Spelling, English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Each grade also profits from music, art, computer, library, and PE classes.
Middle School
Middle School students take classes in Literature, English (grammar & writing), Math (basic math, pre-algebra, Algebra I, some tutoring in Algebra II), Vocabulary, Science, History & Geography, Spanish, PE, Accelerated Reader, and Computer.
Curriculum
Most of our curriculum materials come from Bob Jones University Press and A Beka Books. We are grateful for their Christian perspective. We also use some Saxon Math in the elementary grades. For Middle School Math we use the same publisher as the local county high school (Glencoe/McMillan/McGraw Hill). Our Middle School reading curriculum is supplemented by Accelerated Reader and the vocabulary curriculum published by William Sadlier.
Test Scores
One of the hallmarks of Heritage Christian School has been academic excellence. The keys to that success have been an excellent faculty, quality curriculum materials, dedicated parents, and a good work ethic. All of those factors have combined to produce outstanding test scores year after year.
Achievement Tests
Every spring our students take nationally standardized achievement tests (currently, Terra Nova 3rd Edition published by McGraw Hill). Scores from these tests are reported in national percentiles with a score of 50 being the national average. A score of 80 represents a score in the top 20% of students nationwide. A total battery score is a compilation of scores in Reading, Language and Math. The chart below shows the average total battery score over the last 15 years for each grade. We’re very grateful to God for such a good academic record!
