Heritage Christian School First Lego League Team Competes at the State Tournament
Congratulations to the HCS middle school First Lego League team! After finishing in 1st place in the regional tournament here in Owensboro back in the fall, they went on to the state competition on February 4. In a field of 48 teams from all over the state, these young ladies won 4th place overall, as well as 1st place in the Innovative Solution category. Their 4th place finish earned them an invitation to participate in one of the larger national open championship competitions.
Here’s the team’s description of their innovative solution. “Our First Lego League team saw the problem that families with service dogs have of constant questions and interruptions about their dog. We wanted to give families a tool to help them with their everyday lives. Our Lego League team developed a card that we named the SDE card for Service Dog Education. This card has personalized information for each family on the front and then general information on the back. The goal of the SDE card is simple – to help families with service dogs educate other people in their communities while they are on the go. We also designed a website so that families can input their information and print out cards themselves.”
